A small species of tortoise reaching 6-8 inches, although larger individuals are possible. 

Habitat: These tortoises require good ventilation, so an open topped enclosure (also known as a tortoise table) is recommended. A minimum size table of 4 x 2 x 2 ft is required. 

Heating: Hermanns tortoises require temperatures in the mid 20's (Celsius), and a hotspot of 30-32 degrees Celsius. A nighttime drop in temperature to 18-20 degrees is recommended. 

Lighting: This species of tortoise requires a 12% UVB bulb when used in an open table. This should be turned off at night to ensure the tortoise gets an appropriate day/night cycle.

Humidity: 40-60%. 

Diet: This species is herbivorous, and their diet consists primarily of weeds (dandelion greens, etc.) and mixed greens. Commercial grass based tortoise foods are also available. 

Lifespan: 80+ years.
